Martinis or Martinites?

The results are in…

…And it was a close run thing. Despite record voting, in the end it all came down to one vote.

All Hail to CoCM’s newest canonisation - Saint Mark King out of Level 42!

(Don’t feel too bad for Barack Obama. His recent election to American President will go some way to making up for this heinous defeat. It comes with a free house - although that isn’t quite as good as eternal life on the left hand of God.)

Therefore, we launch our latest poll - what should the followers of Chris Martin (as revealed by Dean Drobbingdon) call themselves? VOTE NOW!

And why not consider joining our Facebook group? It will achieve nothing! Click here to join!

Did Coldplay Rip Off Joe Satriani?

joesatriani.jpgVeteran guitar ninja Satch AKA Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for stealing his 2004 piece “If I could Fly”. Satch said, “I felt like a dagger went right through my heart. It hurt so much.”

Coldplay’s response was “If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him.” Earlier this year, Creaky Boards also claimed that they had written the song. If they actually got to court, I’m surprised, I certainly haven’t heard much about it recently. He got a few thousand hits on MySpace, I’m sure he’s happy.

Coldplay have freely admitted that they borrowed melodies in the past. Talk drew from Kraftwerk’s Computer Love, and the court case with The Cold Mountain Singers is still on-going. Yet the furore over Viva La Vida is something altogether more serious.

Fear not, pilgrims. This has all happened before. At the time that Jesus was preaching in Judea, a cult called Mithraism was becoming popular all through the Roman Empire. Mithras was a Sun god (he was all yellow!), was born on December 25th of a virgin, had a halo, saved his followers through the spilling of the eternal blood, and was worshipped by a meal involving a meal of wine and bread.

terminator.jpgThe parallels were not lost to the Church Fathers - Justin, writing in the 2nd Century, believed that Satan TRAVELLED BACK IN TIME and created Mithraism in order to PRE-EMPTIVELY DISCREDIT CHRISTINITY!

LIKE THE FREAKING TERMINATOR!

As Brother Rob notes, Satch should be happy that he was visited by DIVINE REVELATION, and if he is angry with himself, it should be because he failed to receive the revelation as well as Chris Martin, our Prophet. The MOST HIGH GOD exists in all times and his revelation is timeless, but it took until Chris arrived to receive it fully.

The Muslims believe the same about Mohammed, but that’s just bollocks.

Satch should also feel angry because he’s totally bald, but Chris still has a full head of manly, curly locks. And was Satch’s wife in Iron Man?

The Cold Mountain Singers: “Violet Hill”

{This is the third in a series. The first part can be found here, the second part here.}

cmss-farmhouse.jpg

The Cold Mountain Singers, brothers Tom and Jim Gilhooley, parted in 1949, on the eve of their 33rd birthday. The reasons for their split are still unknown, although Jim’s marriage to a minor Hollywood actress is generally believed to have driven a wedge between them. Others have suggested that Jim was planning on going solo. Whatever the reason, it would be almost fifteen years before they played together again.

Jim went to Nashville, where his stellar - but short-lived - success and subsequent alcoholism are well documented. We will look at his career later. Tom Gilhooley, however, returned to Hatchenchubee, to tend the family farm and look after their aging mother. She was to die only eight months later.

“Violet Hill” was recorded solo by Tom around this time. The song and the recording are informed by his isolation and feelings of loneliness and abandonment. It was never released in his lifetime.

“Violet Hill” is the first fruit of our ongoing project to reconstruct some of the damaged or degraded recordings left by the Cold Mountain Singers. After months of work (paid for by the tax payer, due to our on-going legal dispute with Coldplay) we are now able to post a NEVER BEFORE HEARD RECORDING by this legendary country act. Enjoy.
